What Is the Difference Between hsCRP and Standard CRP?

Standard CRP and high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) measure the same protein, but at different sensitivities. Standard CRP assays detect levels above roughly 5 to 10 mg/L and are used to flag acute inflammation, infection, or a disease flare. High-sensitivity CRP assays detect levels as low as 0.1 to 0.3 mg/L, which is what makes them useful for tracking the low-grade, chronic inflammation tied to everyday diet, sleep, stress, and activity.

What Lowers CRP?

CRP is highly responsive to lifestyle, which is what makes it worth tracking. Because hsCRP reflects your current inflammatory state rather than a fixed trait, the same habits that reduce inflammation show up as measurable drops in your number over weeks and months.

How Does CRP Work in the Body?

A CRP of 8 mg/L during a cold means something very different from a CRP of 8 mg/L in a person who has been well for weeks.
